Clean Up Barrie started in 2020 as a small online group and in 2023 became its own incorporated non-profit organization.
Jen Slykhuis, Clean Up Barrie's Executive Director, has dedicated more than half her life to environmental causes including cleaning up litter in her spare time. In 2022 she received the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority's Healthy Community Award and in 2024 received the Community Builder Award for her work making Barrie cleaner and safer for everyone. Since 2020, Clean Up Barrie through its various programs, have cleaned up over 3000 bags of litter in over 170 locations. Clean Up Barrie's goal is too remove litter from our environment through volunteer events and employing vulnerable individuals in our community. |
